Gray's Lake is probably Des Moines' best park. This is a great place to people watch and also was recently connected to Downtown via the new Meredith Trail.

Has a nice 2 mile trail. Visited often by various ages. Has a bridge lighted by colored lights at night, a free beach, and small boat rentals available.

Take an umbrella if you are going to Gray's Lake today. It started misting when I was half way around :(
Gray's Lake is a park just outside of downtown. It features a 2 mile trail around the lake with a 1/4 mile pedestrian bridge that goes over the lake. The bridge is beautifully lit when after sunset for a nice evening walk and view from Fleur Drive.
The lake also features paddle boat, hydrobike, and canoe rentals and a very nice beach for laying out and swimming.
Also be sure to keep an eye out for events such as Jetski racing.
Park Hours are:
6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. daily
(November through March)
5:00 a.m. - 12:00 midnight daily
(April through October)
