Java Joe's is one of the better coffee places in town. Their coffee is roasted in-house and is served at several other coffeeshops in the Des Moines area. In addition to coffee, they offer the normal selection of coffeeshop drinks (Italian sodas, tea, chai) in addition to bottled beer. Light meals are also available, including a selection of vegetarian/vegan dishes. While I haven't tried more than a couple of the meals, the food is excellent for a quick bite.

There are a number of small tables available for seating in the main room along the side wall and expanded seating near the stage area. The adjoining space next door is currently host to additional seating (several couches and tables) and two pool tables and a handful of pinball/arcade games. Wireless internet access is available in both rooms.

On select weeknights and weekends they are host to a number of local events and shows, including some local and touring bands that may not be limited by the small stage space, slam poetry, and local group meetings.

Java Joe's is a great place to meet up with friends during the week for conversation and draws a variety of people during the weekends, although seating may be hard to come by during shows. Go for the coffee, hang out for the entertainment and company.

A good place for coffee..poety... and maybe the only open mic in town. The sound system lacks, but is perfect for accoustic groups and even some low key electronica or dj's.

Certainly a good venue for local performers to start at... as there is almost always a crowd in and out...
