I really enjoy this bar but if you want to go, I don't recommend a weekend night. Undergrads at Drake crowd this bar and it is almost unbearable. But this bar has been a hometown favorite of mine for years.

The Library was our second stop on an impromptu bar hopping extraveganza, and the bartender/server there was very helpful when we requested referals for other drinking establishments. She created a list of dive bars we had to visit on the Ingersol Crawl, complete with directions! The corndog babies were delish and my partner fell in love with the nachos. The beer is cheep and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. This may become 'our place'!

Fabulous drink specials, great food - the corn dog babies are AWESOME.

Big fan of the Library! Atmosphere, GREAT. Food, GREAT. And the Bud Sauce is out of this world. The nacho hater had to have gotten some newbie in the kitchen who had never made them before because they are fantastic.

First, the Library Cafe does not have the best nachos, unless they mean the best nachos on University Avenue between 35th and 36th Street. The nachos were fairly disgusting, unless you are looking for chips with half-melted cheese, canned mushrooms, and other piled-high-nacho standards done at a mediocre level. The "best nachos" sign on the front should read, "our nachos are okay." The cheese sticks were okay.
The best things about the place are the atmosphere, the inexpensive beer, and the service.

Best bar food in Des Moines. Wings and nachos can't be beat. Try the bud sauce, a hot sauce that the owner makes from scratch. Friendly help.
