I had a rating in August, but I would like to update that info.

We finally came back to the Tavern Pizza and Pasta Grill.I made a complaint to the general manager, and he in fact called me in Texas via phone. Something I did not expect.
He was very concerned and all complaints have been corrected.

Anyway, we returned to the restaurant last night, and it was WONDERFUL. All in our part agreed.

We will definitely return again soon before we go home to Texas,..... maybe today. It was that good!

Go find out for youself, as one in our party is 1/2 Italian and we reside in Rockford, Il summer/fall where they have lots of Italian restaurants .

So don't miss out on wonderful pizza that surpasses the rest!

When we first came to visit my sister in West Des Moines a year ago, we discovered the Tavern II on 50th.
We went there 3 times in one week. The pizza was so great, and us being pizza lovers, and one of us being of Italian descent, we know good pizza. It was pizza to "die for."
But our visit this year was disappointing. The place looked empty (not usual) , and the floors dirty. The pizza did not even have the same taste...we LOVE. I Think it is going downhill.
Next time we come from Illinois in Oct, (winter in Texas) I plan to try another Tavern Pizza location....to be fair....and hope that is BETTER.

Please don't lose that famous taste at Tavern II on 5oth. Or any other location.
Thanks.
Joanne

My one experience was enough. Next time I'm in town I know where to avoid. $17 for a medium takeout BBQ Chicken pizza. Looked more like a small thin crust, maybe 8 pieces of chicken on the whole pizza (and that's being generous), and it looked like someone made it and cut it with their eyes closed. Tasted ok, but still scores low. Hopefully you Des Moines(ers) have other choices.

The broasted chicken is great! Crispy skin, hot and flavorful inside. The fries are good too! Baked beans could have better.

Pizza is the best thing they got going. Sitting and eating in this dump is depressing. They's fried chicken and stuff like that that they is so boring. If you decide to go there, do you self a favor and stick to just beer and pizza.
