I live in Kansas City and think KC has great Italian Restaurants like Figlio’s and Garozzo’s and I put Bordo’s food above both of them. The sauce is amazing. I don’t travel to Des Moines much, but I would recommend the food to anyone that happens to pass through Des Moines. The food was exquisite, the portions were great, and the service was remarkable! I don’t know how anyone could have anything bad to say about this place!

I had a wonderful experience at Bordo's. The food was authentic, and unlike other local Italian Restaurants.
The service was superb and when I inquired about a Martini selection the New Manager, Jon Martin, recommended and actually made me the perfect Martini with Blue Cheese stuffed Olives. I was extremely pleased and definately will return. I recommend Bordo's to everyone who wants exceptional food and personable service.

Wow DG I'm not sure what happen to you at Bordo's. I eat there all the time. The Italian food is the best in the city and the service is awesome. We even had a party of 150 and everything was great. Maybe it was your choices. The manager took such good care of us I thought he was my brother by the time we left. Some time the attitude for the customer is what sets the tone on your experience. Sorry for you lose of not returning. you're missing out on a great restaurant.

I recently attended two different events at Bordo's this fall. One was a Sunday afternoon birthday party and the other was a Benefit dinner....both events were marvelous. Food was timely and perfect. Everything was delicious. The waitress both times was attentive and quick. They did everything for each party and everyone was very pleased with the service and quality of the food. I would without a doubt have parties there, first place I would check out for available dates. If you want wonderful food and a relaxing atmosphere....Bordo's is the place!! The owner can frequently be found greeting guests and making sure your table is pleased....a sure sign of a great establishment. I love Bordo's and would most definitely make a point to stop there and eat frequently.

Well DG I would have to disagree with you.

We had our wedding reception at Bordo's and the party couldnt have been better. We even sent out thank you notes to the staff it was that good....sounds like the problem was your group. We had 1 server for a party of 30+ and she did an excellent job.

Not to mention the food was delicious and the portions huge. We even took food from the party home.

I have never been treated better in a restaurant ever.

Will recommend for partys, or any night out for that matter to anyone.

Great service and even better food.

We booked a party of 25 and long story short, the manager on duty was a TOTAL jerk, the food portions were small and not that good, the waitress was wonderful and did a good job, considering she was alone waiting on 25 people! We had preordered some appetizers and when we decided we needed more, the manager was upset, called the person in charge of our party bad names and made us all miserable. The last time I checked, when you go to an eating establishment, you order food and they are happy to serve you. I will NEVER go back to this place and would never recommend it to anyone. If it weren't for our party, they would have lost money just being open that night.

Bordo\'s is under new ownership and management. The same person that owned Bordo\'s in Chicago no longer owns Bordo\'s in West Des Moines. I would encourage everyone to come and try it out. The food is fantastic as well as the service, you won\'t be disappointed.

This guy was bad news in Chicago and is bad news here. Ever wonder about the restaurant where people spit in the food? This is it. I would rather eat McDonalds than this.

The restaurant is so disorganized! There was no proper management there on a Wednesday night? Why should we have had to pay for our full bill when the food took forever, all of the tables around us got their food before us & arrived after us. No one took responsibility for making us wait over nearly 40 min. for our dinner. The waitress & "manager (who was a different waitress)" were rude to us. They will be closed in 6mo! NOT worth the time! NOT worth the money!!

We were traveling I35 past West Des Moines, as we often do, and because we had been told about the new Bordo's, entered 1250 8th in the gps and were there in minutes. It was a good decision. We received a friendly greeting, were offered a choice of seating, received prompt and helpful service and had a wonderful meal. We chose Italian items because we remember the great food at Bordo's Chicago, and were hoping to find that quality again. I ordered the Carmatelli, and chose Italian sausage; my dinner companion ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs and declared them the best ever. I loved the red sauce and enjoyed my entre very much. The salads were crisp and the Blue Cheese dressing was unique and delightful. The portions were generous and we enjoyed the meals again the next day. It was a delightful dinner and we look forward to our next opportunity to dine at Bordo's.

Bordo's has the best Friday Happy Hour in town. $5 flatbread pizzas, which are awesome and BIG, and 2 for 1 on any drinks you want. I really enjoy going there and the service has always been really good. No complaints.

Tried eating at this bar/restaurant on a Friday night around 7 pm. I thought it would have more of a quiet restaurant vibe, but was overwhelmed with the amount of noise from some pretty loud parties going on in the bar section (which appeared to be 3/4 of the indoor space). We asked the server to move us to the restaurant section, where we were only among 2 other couples eating in on a busy Friday night. The thin crust pizza was excellent, and I would go back just for that if I were in a mood to be in more a bar atmosphere. The pasta dish my date ordered was just ok. The owner made a nice habit of coming around to check on the diners though, which is always much appreciated. Four stars for pizza, much less for the rest of the dining experience.

Very impressed with this restaurant! We had a great meal (Spaghetti and Meatball for me, wife had Taco Salad) and the service was super! We will definitely return for that pasta!!

Sorry, but our experience was very poor. Service was slow despite being one of two occupied tables in the building. I had a the Blue Cheese Burger and my dining partner had the Spicy pasta w/ sausage, etc. The burger was OK, but over done for my tastes (they didn't ask how i'd prefer it to be prepared) and only had a drop of blue cheese somewhere beneath the mushrooms. We laughed. The burger, however, was fine and I loved the onion rings. My dining partner however, only had a couple bites of her pasta and said it tasted horrible and thought maybe the goat cheese was bad or something and didn't eat any more. The server came and asked if everything was OK and when my partner said she couldn't eat her entree, she asked if she wanted it "to go"?! Haha.. she said "No", that she couldn't eat it and she took it away.
When the check did come, it was for the full amount with no apology or offer of any other food item. We questioned the bill and she went away for atleast 5 minutes. The bartender came to our table and asked what the problem was and we explained it to her. She said "so you just didn't like it?" and she said yes and that she didn't eat it. She went away saying she'd speak to the owner. After another 5+ minutes, the server came back to say the owner was not there and he would return in a few minutes. She said we could wait to speak to him???!!! We asked for the check and paid the full bill. If they would have even OFFERED an alternative we would have been satisfied, but that never happened and they seemed confused that there was any reason we wouldn't pay for an entree that was never eaten. I had such high hopes after reading several good reviews listed. I'm sorry, but that wasn't my experience.
Thanks.

Went with a coworker for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the spicy rigitoni w/ sausage, goat cheese, and peas for my entree.

They aren't kidding about spicy - I drank four glasses of water with my meal, but the waitress was attentive and kept it coming. The pasta was a bit over-cooked, and they skimped on the goat's cheese, but the dish was very flavorful and the portion was enough for two meals.

The pre-entree salad was delightful, lots of dark green romaine and the house dressing was a treat. I plan to return for happy hour to try the appetizers and cocktails.

This food is exactly the way my mama used to make it!! When it comes to authentic Italian cuisine, Bordo's is a "HOME RUN"....way to go!!! Thanks for bringing it to DSM!!

Food was very good. Best artichoke dip in town and very good sauce on pizza. Service was less than par and prices a little high for what we had. Two people split a appetizer and a pizza and had ice tea and with tip 32.00 for lunch. Probably would not go for lunch again but might give them a shot at dinner or drinks and snack.

Bordo's is fantastic! Renda's red sauce is one of a kind - and the martini list offers flavors for almost every tastebud.

Try the fried meatballs and the antipasta plate - yummy!
