As far as bars go, its nothing spectacular but is has character and a mean taco that's the size of your head that can only be purchased during the lunch hour on Tuesdays.

Great prices and quality drinks.
Try a Bloody Mary or a white russian, large drinks and don't expect to pay more than $3.
The crowd is a little older, but it is definently not subdued.
It has been around for years so it is in a very bad location for visibility. The interior is decent from a recent remodel. If we are going out in Ankeny, 4 out of 5 times we end up at the Clipper at some point. Definently try diner at The Bear which is right next door. Again, great food and great prices. Old School Ankeny at it's finest.

The Yankee Clipper is a great place to go if you love Bloody Mary's. Not only are they really good, but they are also very inexpensive. (I think $2 the last time I was there.) The most exciting time to be at the Yankee Clipper is right after the beer tent closes at Ankeny Summer Fest. This quant little bar becomes packed wall to wall with friends that you have not seen since last year's Summer Fest. At other times during the year, 'The Clipper' is a mellow place to hang out and talk. If you are lucky enough to go when Pat is DJ'ing...the place has the potential of going nuts...but that is only on occasion. Another reason to consider visiting this establishment is for Taco Tuesday. The Clipper is known for making awesome flour tacos on Tuesdays for lunch, go early because the place gets packed at noon. If you are hanging out in Ankeny on a Friday or Saturday night, The Clipper is a perfect place to start your night to hang out and talk. It also is a great place to end your night...with a Bloody Mary.
