Not so great. OK burger, but nothing that special. Had to ask server for refills and check. I don't really like spending my money on laziness.

Great, cozy spot on the south side. All wood interior gives this a home-like feel. The drinks are well priced and the wings are top notch! Plus, there are plenty of TV's all around. Always a good choice!

One of the best burgers in the city is there for you at Francie's. Move over Drake Diner, or any other place like Fuddrucker's or Red Robin that overcharge you for a burger than isn't up to par with what Francie's puts together. Try the queso and chips appetizer as well. The place feels like I'm having dinner in Grandma's Den it's so cozy, and the outdoor patio has the best view of the Fleur Drive Quik Trip that you can find! The only drawback is that this place fills up quick during the lunch rush, and I've been turned away several times due to the crowds, but if you can get in, it speaks volumes as a SW side favorite hangout.

The food is good, especially the very bad for you cheese fries. The service is ok. Even though there are only a few beers on tap waitresses hardly ever know what they are. Another downside is that the only non-smoking section is about two small tables in a far corner behind the door. Last time it was so smokey it ruined our appetite and we had to leave. There was also a very cold blast coming out of the vent directly over the table even though it was winter.

Francies has a great menu selection. I love a good sandwich and french fries but on my last visit I just got a cobb salad and it was quite awesome, even for a cobb salad. Highly recommended!!

A and D have had many great lunches at Francies. This is a place that has to be taken for what it is: a well-run, well-maintained local bar and grill. It is clean, relatively smoke-free, and has exceptionally friendly and very competent staff. While it has TVs, it isn't a total sports bar; you can talk with friends and hold a good conversation. There are three separate seating areas where customers can gather.

Some of Des Moines best sandwiches come from a very small galley kitchen where two cooks work in a culinary ballet that is fascinating to observe. But the food they create is perfection on a roll. And they really know what they are doing. The french fries are great. Portions are plentiful, reasonably priced, and the selection has something for everyone. The food is very well-prepared and excellent quality.

Francies serves a large number of regulars for lunch and after work, as well. The customers are known and appreciated; the mix is all ages and all walks of life. This may be Des Moines' best bar and grill, and they work hard to keep it that way.

The bartenders are attentive, observant and always friendly. The wait staff are pros, have all been there a long time, and don't make mistakes--plus, they hustle. You never wait and they serve your drinks and food fast.

The selection of beer on tap is wide, and it's cold. And the bar and lounge are spotless. Even the rest rooms are clean and pleasant. While rare, it is nice to see a professionally run bar and grill, and Francies proves it can be done successfully through hard work, caring about quality and customers, and being focused on what they do and do well.

Like a Cheers, Francies is two steps above . . . It's a great tavern with all the associated hospitality.
