Mezzodi's makes my short list of restaurants where I know I'll enjoy everything from the salad to the dessert. For the total dining experience - decor, food, wait staff, other patrons - I can't think of many places that are at the same level in Des Moines.

I had my birthday party here last Friday, and we reserved the party room for 10. Everything was superb from service to food to embiance. Fleur Drive has the best restaurants the South Side has to offer: Skips, Mezzodis and Francies. If you want Italian food with good service and great atmosphere, come to Mezzodis!

One recommendation: the chicken parmesan is best with white (alfredo) sauce over the pasta and red (marinara) sauce over the chicken parmesan. This makes for an excellent combination!

I dined here about 6 years ago and loved it then... moved away and am now back and recently tried Mezzodi's again. STILL LOVE IT!!! Food is great, wine list is, too... and the waitstaff is wonderful! Thanks, Mezzodi's for being a local favorite!

After years of being stupid enough to go to Olive Garden on Friday nights, my boyfriend and I finally found an alternative . . . and a far superior one at that. It still kills me that on almost any given Friday night, there is no wait at Mezzodi's while patrons wait for an hour to two hours outside the mediocrity that is Olive Garden. And if you do it right, Mezzodi's will only cost you five dollars more than the OG.

I've eaten at Mezzodi's more times than I can count, and only two experiences provided less than spectacular quality. My second time eating there about two years ago resulted in a steak with so much fat, it was impossible to eat. In a recent visit (about three months ago), my steak deburgo tasted like it had been marinated too long. It was almost too salty to eat. These are the only disappointments I've had, and the high quality meal, service, atmosphere, and prices of my other experiences make up for them.

I almost don't want to rave about Mezzodi's because I like being able to get in there whenever I want with no hassle. But they deserve the business.

The servers are professional and friendly. They dress in black as if they are supposed to be visible but still a part of the background. And the same wonderful and sweet young lady (Nicole) has been there as long as I've been going there. It's clear the owners value their employees.

The atmosphere simply smolders with class, but the owners know how to have fun (check out the bathroom doors). And where else can you get a hot (almost too hot), huge bowl of perfectly balanced lasagna for only $10?

Beyond having slightly overpriced but marvelous strawberry margaritas, the mashed potatoes are the creamiest I've ever tasted. And the steak deburgo . . . . well, I've heard many people say that once you've had the deburgo there, no other deburgo will compare . . . and it's true.

I could go on and on about this place (and I have on another website), but everyone in this city should eat there at least once to know what quality food tastes like. The next time you think about going to Olive Garden, consider giving Mezzodi's a try.

A great place to eat, especially before or after taking in a movie at the Fleur Cinema. The beer and wine selection is great. The decore is darker. And the food...everything is very good.
