I hope there is at least one person out there that agrees with my reviews. If so, they don't eat here much. I had heard glowing reports of this place from family and friends. After several years, I decided to give it a try.
BIG mistake. Not only was the food below average, But they screwed our take out order up badly. I ordered a picadillo beef chimi. I got a chicken chimi that had no flavor and was very dry. One of my guys ordered the 2 beef chimi lunch special. What he got was TWO orders of beef chimichangas.
This little mistake set him back around 14 bucks. What do you do? I heavily rate a food place on workday takeout as there is no time for trying to get it right a second time. The food blows here as well as their attitudes. Must be the margaritas that get 5 star ratings.

For newcomers to Des Moines, this is one of those hidden treasure only locales know about. The worst thing on the menu is nto on the menu, because it;s free. The Salsa. I say worst, whch it is. yet I have the waiter bring four+ bowls, each and every time I visit. SImply put, the salsa could use more punch. It wouldn't upset a Newborns palate.

But, how does the salsa taste?How's its Flavor? Perfect, of course, like everything else. I really wish someone would hook this place up with Bernie's Salsa.(Hy-vee & most other Iowa stores carry this terrific "Iowa" Salsa)

Plaza Mexico is by far the best mexican cuisine in Des Moines. There are no other restaurants that compare to "the Plaza!"

The service is excellent and the prices extremely reasonable.

Don't forget to ask for their famous red hot sauce. It's the best in town!!!

This is by far my favorite Mexican food. Portions are insanely huge, but excellent. The meat quality is outstanding, which is my frequent complaint with Mexican restaurants around here. Lots of unique items, never had dish that wasn't fantastic and the margaritas are delicious.
